MCJROTC instructors educate high school students on leadership, citizenship, and Marine Corps traditions, fostering discipline, character, and self-confidence. These certified Marine Corps personnel oversee program administration and training, mentor students, and offer counseling. By employing effective teaching methods, instructors equip students with essential life skills, preparing them for future challenges.
Marine Corps Requirements

Marine Corps JROTC Instructor
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Reports to the site principal, the Marine Instructor manages the administrative supply requirements of the unit in addition to their teaching responsibilities. The MI functions as a regular faculty member, working for the SMI, but also works for other school officials and faculty members, as well as community leaders and parents to maintain and strengthen the program.
Individuals employed as MCJROTC Instructors will not perform duties or teach classes in any other discipline unless the performance of such duties does not interfere with both the curricular and extracurricular activities associated with the conduct of the MCJROTC Program. This provision is not intended to preclude MCJROTC Instructors from serving on committees or performing other routine duties that are regularly rotated among faculty members. Because of their duties, MCJROTC Instructors are required to be in good physical condition and able to demonstrate physical training techniques and supervise cadet activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Instructor Recertification
All Marine Corps JROTC instructors will initially receive a provisional certification pending completion of the Instructor Certification Course and securing initial employment. The Instructor Certification Course must be completed within the first two years of initial employment. Additionally, Instructors holding full certification must apply for recertification every four years.
Finally, instructor recertification requires submission of a current photo in uniform accompanied by documentation from a medical doctor verifying the instructor's health, height, weight and body fat (if necessary). The recertification package must also include documentation of education and training, a copy of the PRAXIS I PPST test scores of 175 or higher in each subject area (see info below), and a letter of recommendation from the school principal. Marine Instructor applications will be endorsed by the Senior Marine Instructor.
*** Effective April 2012: the PRAXIS I Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) for Reading, Writing and Math is required by ALL employed as MCJROTC instructors within 4 years of initial certification. A minimum score of 175 in each subject area is required. Failure to pass all 3 tests will result in non-recertification. For more information about the PRAXIS I PPST visit www.ets.org/praxis***

Marine Corps JROTC instructors must be recertified every four years.
Education:
If certified as an MI, must have or complete an Associate's Degree within 5 years of hire. All college degrees will be verified for accreditation under the standards of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Degrees from colleges, universities and institutions for higher education that cannot be found on the CHEA website www.chea.org will not be accepted.
