BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Hemet Unified School District is proud to partner with the Alder Graduate School of Education Teacher Residency Program, recognized with a CSBA Golden Bell Award for innovation in educator preparation. This partnership reflects HUSD’s commitment to strengthening the educator pipeline and preparing highly effective teachers for our schools and community.
The Mentor Teacher role provides experienced educators with the opportunity to serve as instructional leaders while shaping the next generation of teachers. Mentor teachers work alongside a resident teacher who is embedded in the classroom for the school year, creating a collaborative teaching environment that enhances student learning and professional growth.

MENTOR QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid California Clear Credential in the subject area(s) of:
- Multiple Subject
- Special Education - Mild/Moderate
- Mathematics
- Science

Must be teaching/providing services to students in the subject area listed on his/her credential (Must teach or provide services at least half of the day in the content area that matches the credential).

Must have completed 3 years of teaching experience by June 30, 2026.
MENTOR STIPEND
Unit Members participating in the Alder Graduate School of Education/HUSD Resident Teacher Program shall receive an extra duty stipend for each year of participation in the amount of $3,500 per year (prorated monthly according to service and participation).

MENTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bargaining Unit Members selected to participate in the HUSD Resident Teacher Program as Teacher Mentors shall attest and abide by the conditions and responsibilities outlined in the Mentor Teacher Requirements.
Time Commitment
The role of a Mentor Teacher is a significant time commitment. It is expected that Mentors will make mentoring duties their top after school priority. Mentor Teachers must be able to commit to:

At least 2 hours of "Sacred Meeting Time" every week.

Ongoing collaboration during the instructional day, including co-teaching and co-planning

Participation in required mentor orientations, meetings, and professional learning
Key Responsibilities
Mentor Teachers are expected to:

Serve as the teacher of record in the classroom

Model effective instruction, classroom management, and professional practice

Provide at least 5 hours per week of documented support through:
-
Co-teaching and lesson study
-
Observation and feedback cycles
-
Co-planning and instructional design
-
Analyzing student data and student work
-
Engage in reflective coaching conversations aligned to program expectations

Collaborate with program staff to support resident progress and credential requirements
