Job Description

HEAD START/STATE PRESCHOOL HEALTH & SAFETY COMPLIANCE MONITOR


JOB SUMMARY
This position reports to the Head Start/State Preschool Principal and may be expected to work independently while maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for Head Start and State Preschool children and others district wide; perform essential job duties and responsibilities and other duties as may be required.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure health and safety regulations for federal, state, and local agencies are upheld in all preschool classrooms and preschool playgrounds;
• Complete preschool safety inspections in all preschool classrooms on a monthly basis;
• Make necessary purchases for immediate required repairs;
• Submit, receive and complete preschool work orders and maintain accurate records of all safety inspection work orders;
• Assemble and/or remove preschool classroom furniture when necessary and replace;
• Provide light maintenance work for immediate repairs due to health or safety violations;
• Inventory and organize preschool consumables according to program requirements;
• Inventory and organize preschool materials and supplies according to program requirements;
• Prepare and distribute preschool orders of consumables, supplies, materials, and furniture;
• Respond to preschool classroom custodial emergencies;
• Open preschool administration buildings and maintain cleanliness of administration office facilities;
• Assist in the set-up of Head Start/State Preschool special events, activities or meetings;
• Vacuum and shampoo preschool rugs and carpets;
• Provide clean up in preschool classrooms due to a possible health and safety violation;
• Perform other duties as may be required.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES


Knowledge of:
• Basic computer skills (i.e., email) to generate, receive, and maintain work orders and consumable orders;
• Basic knowledge of Head Start and State Preschool Health & Safety protocols;
• Basic knowledge of community care licensing regulations;
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques;
• Use and application of cleaning materials, chemicals and equipment;
• Basic knowledge of general maintenance work.


Ability to:
• Prioritize and schedule activities;
• Meet deadlines;
• Manage multiple tasks;
• Work around preschool age children;
• Perform basic arithmetic calculations (add, subtract, multiple, divide);
• Understand oral and written directions;
• Use a computer for e-mail, basic correspondence, generating and tracking work orders;
• Exercise sound judgment;
• Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
• Learn and utilize new and current technologies;
• Read, write, and understand English;
• Perform general maintenance repairs;
• Comply with all health and safety procedures.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Education:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.


Experience:

Six (6) months job related experience AND six (6) months experience with health and safety inspections AND six (6) months experience maintaining inventory.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
If required to drive a vehicle in the course of work, operator must possess a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License; and have an acceptable driving record to qualify for insurability with the District’s insurance carrier.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.


Physical Demands: Walk continuously; bend, stoop, reach, push & pull, carry, frequently; lift up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds infrequently; grasp and manipulate tools and equipment frequently.


Working Conditions: The job is performed indoors and outdoors. Exposure to: dust, sand, wind, sun, and insects. Seasonal outdoor temperatures range from 30-120 degrees. Possible exposure to mechanically or electronically operated equipment, cleaning agents/odors, vibrations from buffers, power washers, or blowers may occur.
