HEMET UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SECONDARY BAND TEACHER - MUSIC
OVERVIEW OF POSITION
Under the direction of the Site Administration, to organize and implement quality band teaching that is inspiring and engaging. Plan and conduct instrument ensemble lessons for students. Collaboration with other music teachers to plan performances and recruitment, developing band programs, and demonstrating proficiency in required instruments are core elements. Assist in school programs and follow General Duties and Responsibilities Guidelines, as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Teaching and Learning:
•Experience with marching band, jazz band, drumline, orchestra andconcert band are desirable
•Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily classes so thatpreparation, instruction, and rehearsal can be accomplished within theallotted time
•Utilizes varied repertoire, including traditional and contemporary literature,that is appropriate for the ages and demonstrated skill level of performers
•Evaluates, assesses and supports high-quality individual studentdevelopment and performance
•Maintains accurate inventory over school-owned instruments, music,uniforms and equipment to prevent loss and to assess for repair andreplacement
•Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs for instruments as required
•Selects and requisitions appropriate music, books, instruments andinstructional aids, to enhance learning
•Meets with other District music teachers in planning for District musicprograms
•Collaborates with site staff to provide multiple performance opportunitiesfor students to showcase their skills for their peers and parents
•Implements high quality learning and teaching strategies to inspire bestpractice
•Establishes and maintains appropriate standards for student behavior toprovide an orderly, productive environment during individual practice,group rehearsals, and musical performances
•Connects curricular content to the California Arts Standards

•Creates a safe and productive classroom culture that fosters studentresponsibility for self and music equipment
•Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and theclassroom is safe and secure for learning

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Credential:
•Music Single Subject
•Music Education K-12 Certification is desirable
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Music, Music Performance, or Music Education preferred
