NUTRITION SERVICES DELIVERY DRIVER

 

JOB SUMMARY 

Under general supervision by the Director of Nutrition Services or designee, to pick up and deliver warehouse supplies, technology, and nutrition training materials, district mail; load and unload delivery truck; to assist in general store keeping activities; load, deliver and unload prepared foods and food containers to various schools according to pre-arranged schedules; pick up and deliver food related products; assist in maintaining stock in order at Nutrition Services Warehouse; pre-trip assigned vehicle; assist in the movement of cafeteria equipment; any driver may be required to assist in the Nutrition Services Warehouse; and at critical times may be required to assist in another driver's primary area of responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Make several scheduled runs daily from central kitchen to schools including outlying areas;

  2. Stage, load, deliver and pick upfoods including perishables, paper, equipment and othermaterials including mail;

  3. May deliver reimbursements to nutrition employees, and other special deliveries for nutrition services as may be needed;

  4. May make special trips to local stores to buy or pick up equipment, food and supplies;

  5. Load and unload containers, hot carts and trays/utensils fordistribution;

  6. Assist in maintaining food, paper goods and frozen food storage areas;

  7. Assist in shelving, storing and rotating supplies and assist with receiving and inventories;

  8. Delivery of prepared foods, may set up a kitchen, serve food to staff and break down of equipment;

  9. Clean kitchen equipment, work and floor surfaces, general facilities, and storage areas;

  10. May perform general warehouse duties and direct the substitute delivery driver;

  11. Regularly wash, and maintain the interior of assigned districtvehicle;

  12. Maintain work areas including storage areas, warehouse, service dock, and loading dock;

  13. Perform daily pre-trip inspections, submit completed log and report maintenance needs of assigned district vehicle;

  14. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  1. Techniques and methods for establishing and maintaining delivery routes and schedules;

  2. Safe driving practices and operation of light and/or medium-duty delivery trucks;

  3. School District and the location of schools and offices;

  4. Appropriate methods for lifting and loading supplies and equipment;

  5. Proper operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.

 

Ability to:

  1. Maintain tight delivery schedules without close supervision;

  2. Drive and operate a light and/or medium duty delivery truck safely and in conformance with State Laws;

  3. Learn school and District office locations and geography of the District and adjust schedule accordingly;

  4. Keep required records;

  5. Respond appropriately to direction and changes in work setting;

  6. Organize tasks, set priorities, maintain established pace;

  7. Work with minimal supervision;

  8. Manage multiple tasks;

  9. Perform repetitive tasks;

  10. Learn various mailing and postage regulations;

  11. Learn warehousing procedures relating to the receipt, storage and issuance of goods and supplies used in the District;

  12. Follow written and verbal instructions, and schedules;

  13. Understand and follow oral and written directions;

  14. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work;

  15. Access and use District-adopted web-based systems.

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

 

Education: High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.

 

Experience: Six (6) months experience operating a mid-size delivery vehicle and performing warehouse receiving and storage functions.

 

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Possession of and maintain a valid California Driver’s License during the course of employment;

  2. Have an acceptable driving record;

  3. Must be insurable at standard rates by the District’s insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment;

  4. Forklift Certification;

  5. Riverside County Environmental Health Food Handler’s Card.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above.

 

Physical Demands: Sit, stand, walk, drive, bend, stoop, squat, reach, push/ pull (rollers & dollies), climb, twist, look up/ down, (occasionally); kneel (infrequently); lift/ carry items up to 40 pounds (occasionally); lift/ carry to 75 pounds (infrequently); grasp & operate supplies/ equipment/ lift gate (occasionally); use seeing, hearing & speaking.



Working Conditions: Regular driving over mountain roads requiring driving under all types of weather

conditions and exposure to: seasonal temperature (to 100°), dust & wind, traffic fumes and mechanically

operated equipment. Job requires understanding of proper methods for lifting and carrying, loading and

unloading supplies and equipment.
