BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under the direction of the school site administrator, as part of a secondary teaching position, the teacher shall instruct students in grades 9-12 and assist in other school programs as designated. Performs duties and responsibilities of Subject Area Position Description.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Guides students in their learning and development in grades 9-12; teaches courses in specific subject areas, utilizing a course of study adopted by the Governing Board; prepares a lesson or activity for each class period; instructs pupils in citizenship and basic communication skills as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district; evaluates and counsels with students on student work; takes action to inform parents, administrators, counselors, and/or specialists to assist in meeting health, attitude and learning needs; sets and enforces behavior guidelines in the classroom; reports infractions of school rules which are observed on the campus; maintains a healthful classroom environment; assigns a grade to each student at the end of each grading period in accordance with the adopted grading policy; reports absences and records attendance and grades in accordance with school policy; maintains classroom inventory and surveillance over storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials to prevent loss or abuse. Makes requests for repairs to equipment as required; plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants and other para-professionals as necessary; notifies the answering service in case of absence; arranges lesson plans, roll sheets and seating charts for the substitute; requests period substitute from appropriate office personnel when necessary; works with the assigned department to evaluate materials and curriculum; participates in faculty and department meetings, committees, curriculum and other developmental programs, exhibits professional cooperation with school personnel; upholds school and district policies; supervises the assigned class during the class period unless otherwise directed; gives general supervision where required; reports all health and safety hazards to the site administrator; shares in the sponsorship of student activities; participate in and support activities which are conducive to staff rapport and morale and positive school community relationships and other related teaching duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Credential:
General Secondary, Standard Secondary with a major or minor in the assigned area, Special Secondary in the assigned area, or a Single Subject in the assigned area. CLAD/BCLAD, SADAIE certification desirable.
Education:
Bachelor's degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions of the position.
Physical Demands;Sit, stand, reach, look down, turn neck (frequently); walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, climb stairs, reach above shoulders (occasionally); kneel, crawl, lay down, use foot controls (infrequently); lift/carry items to 10 pounds (frequently), to 25 pounds (occasionally) and 26 – 90 pounds (students, in emergencies); grasp/manipulate materials and supplies (frequently); use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuously).
Working Conditions: Indoor classrooms, outdoor school yard and grounds. Exposure to: student and playground noise, communicable diseases, unruly students, air conditioning, seasonal temperatures, dust, wind, pesticides and possible smog.
