SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the school site administrator, provides an educational program for learning handicapped students.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Generally teaches all subjects appropriate to the individual student's needs as indicated on the Individualized Education Program (IEP); provides frequent, intensive and individually planned small group and/or individual instruction in areas of need; participates in Educational Assessment Service (EAS) meetings; establishes with the parent, the goals, objectives, activities and materials appropriate for that student within a given time frame and records same on the Individualized Education Program (IEP); participates in the annual and three year review; monitors and records progress toward objectives; establishes an ongoing evaluation procedure; plans and implements an instructional program for identified students based on the needs rejected in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) on a pull out basis; assesses student progress; assists in student identification process; serves as case carrier in the preparation for the IEP meeting at the school site level; serves as a resource in the area of learning handicapped for all school staff; works closely with school psychologist and other auxiliary personnel; confers with parents; serves as liaison with appropriate community agencies; coordinates the Special Education services provided each individual with exceptional needs served through the resource specialist program and other related teaching duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the various learning handicaps and strategies for amelioration; knowledge of appropriate materials and resources to be used with specific deficiencies at the various grade levels; knowledge of appropriate assessment tools for diagnosis and screening; ability to interact efectively with staff, parents, students and community agencies; familiarity with Special Education Master Plan; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Credential:
Mild Moderate Credential, Learning Handicapped Specialist Credential and a Resource Specialist Certificate of Competence or Education Specialist. CLAD/BCLAD SADAIE certification desirable.
Education:
Bachelor's degree including all courses needed to meet requirements in the Education Specialist credential area.Physical Demands:
Walk, look downward, turn neck (up to continuously) sit, bend, (frequently); stand, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, (Occasionally; kneel, crawl. Climb (infrequently);
grasp/manipulate materials & supplies (continuously); lift items to 10 pounds (frequently), carry to 10 pounds (occasionally), lift/carry to 40 pounds (infrequently) (occasionally for PE and Industrial Arts teachers) use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuous, in class).The Hemet Unified School District (District) is committed to providing equal opportunity for all individuals in District programs and activities.
