and Instructional Programming, or a field sufficiently related to ensure performance success.
EXPERIENCE:
• 5 years of successful teaching and coordinating special education functions and activities.

CREDENTIAL AND LICENSES:
● Valid General Administration, Standard Administration, and Administrative Services credential.
● Valid California teaching or Pupil Personnel Services credential.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, coordinates District Special Education
Services to students and parents in alignment with State and Federal mandates and provides leadership in
the planning, implementation and evaluation of all special education programs serving District students.
Coordinates and leads the district special education programs, including, but not limited to Preschool through
Adult transition, and intervention programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
• Exercises direct supervision over assigned certificated and classified personnel including
necessary training in testing, forms and procedures for new staff;
• Assist with monitoring and implementation of program compliance in accordance with State and
Federal law to maintain district compliance.
• Assists Director of Special Education and Personnel Department with screening and interviewing
prospective candidates for special education programs, both certificated and classified;
• Collaborates with District and Site Personnel for the purpose of implementing and maintaining
services and/or programs.
• Develops proposals, programs, budgets and grants for the purpose of meeting District goals
• Evaluate and implement assigned Special Education programs and/or projects for the purpose of
meeting District and state curriculum and/or instructional goals and achieving objectives within area of
responsibility.
• Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying
information to personnel, parents, and legal compliance
• May serve as District representative in special education mediation and due process hearings.
• Assist with responding to Office of Civil Rights (OCR) complaints and procedures.
• Assist with responding to California Department of Education (CDE) complaints and procedures.
• Responds to noncompliance complaints;
• Visit classes and school sites on a regular basis to monitor effectiveness and assist when needed;
• Coordinates, facilitates and evaluates the entire IEP development and implementation process;
serves as administrator at IEP meetings as needed;
• Designs, implements and evaluates a comprehensive training and development program for Special
Education Teachers, general education staff, administration and parents;
• Supervises and monitors special education programs and staff development budgets including low
incidence supplies; Adult Education transition program
• Collects program evaluation data and reviews the implications for changes in the special education
programs;
• Assist students and families in need of services beyond those available in a public-school setting.
• Monitors staff activities to ensure that all mandated timelines are met.
• Keeps up-to-date with laws and regulations regarding special education procedures and the placement
of students in programs, both in and out of the District;
• Develop and revise departmental forms and procedures as needed;
• Coordinates the activities of the special education services by guiding principals, general education
teachers and staff;
• Oversee support staff: Adaptive Physical Education staff, Speech and Language Pathologists,
Occupational Therapists,
• Participate in the evaluation of personnel as designated by the Director of Special Education.
• Coordinate with Administrative Assistant the computer data for State and Federal reports;
• Work collaboratively with other departments (i.e transportation, Ed Services, Technology) to ensure
compliance of student IEPs
• District representative with universities Special Education Intern Program.

• Organization, planning, and program evaluation strategies, techniques, and procedures;

• Interpersonal skills, conflict resolution strategies and procedures, and team building methods and
techniques.
ABILITY TO:
• Plan, organize and coordinate the District special education program;
• Read, understand, interpret and follow laws, regulations, processes, policies, methods and education
code pertaining to special education, office, the District and the State of California.
• Learn, plan, formulate and execute federal, state, District and departmental policies, procedures and
directives, in accordance with assigned duties.
• Understanding of continuum of special education services and placement options, including, curriculum
and instruction design and delivery systems for students receiving special education services;
• Understanding of research and development strategies, processes, and techniques;
• Aid in the planning, development, and implementation of budget planning, and expenditure control
processes and procedures;
• Evaluate and analyze complex problems, issues, and concerns, recommend appropriate alternative
solutions;

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must
perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above.
Physical Demands: Sit, look downward, reach, (up to frequently); stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull,
foot controls (occasionally); climb stairs, twist (infrequently); repetitive hand activities within close reach, such
as files, keyboard & handwriting (frequently); lift/ carry up to 25 pounds (occasionally), may lift/ carry child up
to 75 pounds (infrequently); extensive reading; use vision, hearing & speaking (including in-person, phone &
public address.)
Working Conditions: Indoor office, outdoor school yard & grounds, driving to different sites. Exposure to:
seasonal temperature variations, dust and wind, traffic, food preparation smells, use of office equipment and
desk supplies.
