DEAN OF STUDENTS
Certificated Management


JOB SUMMARY
Serves under the supervision of District and/or Site Administration and assists with the coordination of programs, i.e. student discipline/behavior, curriculum development, and instructional improvement. Implements and manages a tiered student engagement framework and tiered behavioral intervention program while working in conjunction with school and District administrators. Coordinates activities and accountability measures; supervises and evaluates staff as directed; and performs other related work as required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Supervises students;
● Addresses student behavior, assigns student disciplinary interventions, promotes student engagement, and creates various support plans for students in collaboration with staff and parents/guardians;
● Receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns;
● Consistently administers student disciplinary policies and programs;
● Reviews progress reports;
● Collaborates in the creation and implementation of tiered behavioral and social emotional strategies and supports for students;
● Assists in evaluating the educational program, services, and personnel as directed;
● Assists in all forms of assessments;
● Responds to disciplinary issues and collaborates with site administration as needed;
● Approves work orders where delegated;
● Maintenance of student attendance, accounting, and preparation of reports;
● Preparation of programs handbooks and various schedules;
● Assists in interpreting academic and intervention programs to parents/guardians in the district and to interested community members;
● Participates in community and professional organizations;
● Assists district administration and site administration in collaborating one district initiatives;
● Assists administration in the articulation of educational programs and behavioral intervention models;
● Coordinates projects as assigned;
● Assists site/program administration with organization/facilitation of in-services for staff;
● Works with parent groups and attend parent group meetings;
● Works with District Administration and staff to coordinate efforts to maintain compliance under grant and site funds;
● Organizes and maintains record keeping system for student accountability, identification of student special needs, i.e., English Language Learners, Educationally Disadvantaged Youth, etc., control inventory and other necessary program documentation;
● Provides leadership and supervision in the development/implementation of services that enhance the core curriculum as detailed in the school plans;
● May perform other related work as may be required.

● Procedures, methods, and strategies of organization, management, and supervision;
● Modern innovative and creative curriculum and instructional trends regarding the K-8 age child;
● Student behavioral interventions and models;
● California Education Code related to student discipline;
● Curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies, and program supervision, assessment, and evaluation;
● Result and performance evaluation techniques pertaining to program and personnel performance effectiveness;
● Human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies, and team building principles and techniques.

EDUCATION:
Master's Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.


EXPERIENCE:
3 years of successful teaching experience; 5 years minimum preferred. Previous administrative experience is desired.


CREDENTIAL AND LICENSES:
● General Administration, Standard Administration, and/or Administrative Services credential (or letter of eligibility).
● Valid California Driver’s license;
● Maintain possession of such license during the course of employment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above.
Physical Demands: Sit, look downward, reach, (up to frequently); stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, foot controls (occasionally); climb stairs, twist (infrequently); repetitive hand activities within close reach, such as files, keyboard & handwriting (frequently); lift/ carry up to 25 pounds (occasionally), may lift/ carry child up to 75 pounds (infrequently); extensive reading; use vision, hearing & speaking (including in-person, phone & public address.)


Working Conditions: Indoor office, outdoor school yard & grounds, driving to different sites. Exposure to: seasonal temperature variations, dust and wind, traffic, food preparation smells, use of office equipment and desk supplies.
