Job Description

ELEMENTARY BREAKFAST SUPERVISION AIDE

JOB SUMMARY

Positions in this class are assigned to a school cafeteria and perform their duties under the direct supervision of the cafeteria manager and are responsible for maintaining an orderly and safe environment in the school cafeteria, including serving lines and inside and outside eating areas, to assist in meal delivery and to provide minor clean up. Students supervised are in the elementary school age group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise students during breakfast;
  • Observe that safety rules are obeyed;
  • Report special behavior problems and unusual, unsafe, dangerous, or improper conduct;
  • Observe safe and sanitary procedures and practices;
  • May assist the cafeteria manager in the set up and serving of breakfast items.
  • Provide minor clean up.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • The basic principles of first aid;
  • Standards of courtesy to be observed by students;
  • Safe food-handling practices and procedures;
  • Basic clean up;
  • General school objectives;
  • Proper lifting techniques.

ABILITIES TO

  • Supervise students;
  • Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward elementary age students;
  • Follow policies and instructions;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Display sufficient stamina to permit performance of duties in inclement weather;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and adults.

EXPERIENCE

Paid or volunteer experience working with elementary school age children desired; possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential functions.

Physical Demands:  

Walk, reach below shoulders, flex and turn neck (continuously); stand, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, twist, look upward, reach above shoulders (occasionally); lift/carry items to 50 pounds (frequently); grasp/manipulate equipment; use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuously).

Working Conditions:  

Meal service and eating areas. Exposure to: noise from students, school bells; exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced; Exposure to: cold/heat from freezers, refrigerators and ovens/warmers, cooking noises and odors, electrically/ mechanically/ gas operated equipment, cleaning fluids and cleaning agent odors.
