ELEMENTARY GENERAL MUSIC TEACHER
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under direction, to teach and instruct pupils in Grades K – 5 to organize and implement quality, inspiring and engaging music lessons for elementary students. Collaborating with other music teachers to plan performances and recruitment, developing Choir programs and delivering a well-rounded curriculum are core elements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop a culture of care in which students connect music to their lives and the greater community
- Utilize lessons that include singing, saying, moving, playing, listening, creating and reflecting
- Work with the District approved Game Plan curriculum in conjunction with enrichment activities to encourage appropriate playing and singing techniques and expression
- Recruit for and organize a minimum of two periods of Choir per week
- Plan and implement a recorder component for all grade 3 students
- Connect curricular content to the California Arts Standards
- Collaborate with district and site staff to provide multiple performance opportunities for students to showcase their talents and passions for their peers and parents
- Develop clear classroom, behavior and performance etiquette expectations
- Provide quality, rigorous instruction; aligning authentic assessment tasks
- Implement high quality learning and teaching strategies to inspire best practice
- Actively recruit on site and with other feeder divisions to promote the arts in the District and to increase student participation and retention
- Orff, Kodaly and World Music experience desirable Classroom culture.
- Create a safe and productive classroom culture that fosters student responsibility for self and ensemble music equipment
- Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learningStudent and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset and student talents are cultivated
- All students are welcome and receive an equitable learning opportunity
- Maintain an organized, clean environment Professional Responsibilities:
- Participate in staff meetings and committees, as assigned
- Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities to improve teaching and learning
- Reflect on instruction and goal setting with assigned Coach/Mentor
- Maintain professional competence through in-service training provided by the District and/or through self-selected professional development activities
- Complete all District requests including but not limited to inventory, reporting, communicating with parents and staff and completing contractual obligations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
Bachelor's degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.Credential:

Physical Demands:
Sit, stand, reach, look down, turn neck (frequently); walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, climb stairs, reach above shoulders (occasionally); kneel, crawl, lay down, use foot controls (infrequently); lift/carry items to 10 pounds (frequently), to 25 pounds (occasionally) and 26 – 90 pounds (students, in emergencies); grasp/manipulate materials and supplies (frequently); use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuously).
