Work Hours: Monday - Friday | Work hours will range between 5:55 a.m. - 8:55 a.m. AND 12:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. (Set work hours will be established based on site needs)

INTENSIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION ASSISTANT
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, to assist the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) in the supervision and instruction of general and special education students in a variety of educational settings, including the ELOP program, community, and classroom; to implement intensive behavior intervention programs for identified students; attend student progress meetings; assist the student with and demonstrate proper physical care and hygienic needs; and relieve ELOP staff of routine clerical duties.
The Intensive Behavior Intervention Assistant is distinguished from other instructional classifications by the varying locations at which work is performed, the absence of immediate supervision, the independent judgment exercised, and the special needs of the population served. Positions assigned to this class are
further distinguished by the emphasis on knowledge of methodologies found to benefit some children, including, but not limited to, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped Children (TEACCH), and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Incumbents may be required to drive a personal vehicle to travel to locations including the classroom and community and provide one-to-one intensive behavioral intervention services.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Follow program enrichment lesson plans and assist in the preparation of plans or develop own plans based on program direction and explanation of student’s physical and/or educational needs;
2. Under direct and/or indirect supervision, provide individual and group instruction and/or intensive behavior intervention in the program setting and/or on program field trips;
3. Perform specialized instructional assistance in areas of related service including, but not limited to, adaptive physical education, speech and language, and/or occupational therapy;
4. Assist in supporting students needing remedial instruction in movement skills and providing activities for improvement of skills in body image, spatial awareness balance, locomotion, strength and agility;
5. Assist students with personal hygiene and in developing self-help grooming skills as appropriate, including, but not limited to, eating, washing, oral care, and toileting;
6. Assist in toileting and changing diapers as needed;
7. Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes, maintain and organize program notebooks, and implement behavior modifications;
8. Assist ELOP administration with meeting individual student needs;
9. Assist ELOP administration in preparing a variety of learning materials;
10. Set up work areas and prepare materials for instructional use;
11. Perform routine clerical tasks related to classroom record keeping and instructional material preparation;
12. Operate or learn to operate a variety of audiovisual equipment, office equipment, electronic teaching machines, assistive technology, and computer terminals;
13. Supervise students at meal times, on the playground, and field trips;
14. Attend a variety of meetings, workshops, and in-service training to maintain current knowledge of special education practices;
15. May attend other school activities outside of standard work hours;
16. Respect the confidential nature of pupil records and school reports;
17. May assist ELOP administration with parent contacts;
18. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

16. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information;
17. Demonstrate problem-solving skills and determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines;

20. Obtain and maintain a valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate;
21. Drive a vehicle to conduct work;

25. Project a mature, constructive, stable, and positive attitude in the learning environment;

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Education: High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above. AA degree or higher or pass the District-designated Intensive Behavior Intervention Assistant assessment test. Attendance and demonstration of proficiency for District-established training sessions are required for continued employment.
Experience: Work history demonstrating dependability, reliability, and good attendance.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES1. Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License and maintain possession of such license during employment;
2. Have an acceptable driving record;
3. Must be insurable at standard rates by the District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during employment;
4. Positions in this classification require the use of a personal automobile;
5. Must possess a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate;
6. Pass the District’s adopted Proficiency Examination with a satisfactory score;
7. Pass a physical to ensure the ability to perform all physical requirements.

Working Conditions: Indoor classrooms, outdoor school yard & grounds, and community. Exposure to student and playground noise (moderate); seasonal temperatures, dust, and wind.
