COORDINATOR of TK-12 SCHOOL COUNSELING
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Elementary Education and Secondary Education, provides leadership and works collaboratively with all directors and site administrators to produce ongoing improvement in counseling services among all student groups, Pre-K through grade 12. Facilitates the development and alignment of district protocol for counseling services. Exercises direct supervision over assigned certificated and classified personnel, including necessary training in counseling procedures for new staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide leadership to ensure the understanding and promotion of the educational objectives of the district;
- Provide support to divisions under the Educational Services umbrella;
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district elementary and secondary comprehensive counseling program;
- Provide supervision and evaluation of counselors on special assignments as directed;
- Coordinate with Student Services on the integration of mental health programs;
- Work in a collegial environment between Educational Services and Student Services to develop district focus and direction, including College and Career pathways;
- Work collaboratively with directors and coordinators to ensure ongoing improvement in student achievement;
- Provide research-based leadership in decisions affecting counseling;
- Work with site administrators to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of counseling programs, Pre-K through grade 12;
- Provide professional input into the social/emotional, academic, and behavioral expectations district-wide to strengthen the district’s multi-tiered systems of student support;
- Review and monitor limited budgets relating to counseling services, as assigned;
- Provide professional input into the Local Control Accountability Plan regarding counseling services, as requested;
- Coordinate the scope and sequence of college and career curriculum for all levels of learners;
- Leads district counseling teams to reach desired student and staff outcomes;
- Assist sites in using data to better inform decision-making for counseling services;
- Maintain a longitudinal collection of data for required reporting purposes for decision-making functions within the district;
- Prepare reports, summaries, and analyses as requested by the Assistant Superintendent and district decision- makers;
- Make presentations to the Governing Board, district leadership, community;
- Attend local and state meetings and professional development to support professional responsibilities;
- Coordinate with higher education to provide opportunities for students, including but not limited to Dual Enrollment and Concurrent Enrollment;
- Oversee the implementation of the AVID program at a district level;
- Organize and implement districtwide counseling events as aligned with the goals and priorities within the K-12 counseling program;
- Identify, establish, and hold opportunities for district counseling collaboration.
KNOWLEDGE OF
- Thorough knowledge of administrative training and school counseling principles and techniques to improve student learning;
- Knowledge of National and State Standards for the Counseling Profession, assessment, and effective school counseling practice;
- Knowledge of a comprehensive counseling program based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model
- Possess extensive knowledge of College and Career Pathways, including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, College Career Indicator, A-G requirements, and CTE programs;
- CALPADS reporting
ABILITY TO:
- Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions;
- Conduct professional development for district staff and facilitate organizational development.
- Analyze and assess counseling needs and offer recommendations pertaining to counseling program revision, additions, or deletions;
- Evaluate and analyze complex problems, issues, and concerns and recommend appropriate alternative solutions;
- Work cooperatively with staff, students, and the public;
- Make independent decisions;
- Work autonomously;
- Demonstrate good judgment and good problem-solving skills;
- Organize tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines;
- Manage multiple tasks;
- Direct, supervise, and instruct others;
- Respond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting.
EDUCATION:
Master's Degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of successful teaching and related certificated service.
- Experience in elementary and secondary schools preferred.
- Site and District-level counseling experience preferred.
CREDENTIAL AND LICENSES:
- Valid General Administration, Standard Administration, and Administrative Services credential.
- Valid California teaching and/or Pupil Personnel Services credential.
- Valid California Driver’s license;
- Maintain possession of such license during the course of employment.

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above.
Physical Demands: Sit, look downward, reach, (up to frequently); stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, foot controls (occasionally); climb stairs, twist (infrequently); repetitive hand activities within close reach, such as files, keyboard & handwriting (frequently); lift/ carry up to 25 pounds (occasionally), may lift/ carry child up to 75 pounds (infrequently); extensive reading; use vision, hearing & speaking (including in-person, phone & public address.)
Working Conditions: Indoor office, outdoor school yard & grounds, driving to different sites. Exposure to: seasonal temperature variations, dust and wind, traffic, food preparation smells, use of office equipment and desk supplies.
