Job Description

CTE PATHWAY ASSISTANT

 

JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Director of CTE, to assist in CTE program development and sustainability.

CTE Pathway Assistants are involved in the maintenance of equipment, assisting students with projects,

and working to create a meaningful experience that prepares students for high-quality, in-demand careers

after graduation. Clerical work, strong organizational, and communication skills are needed to complete

tasks associated with this position.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Become familiar with the materials in the CTE classroom; record of proficient use of the textbooks, equipment, and materials used within the pathway courses, which may include shop equipment, live animals, and various pieces of technology;

  2. Under the direction of the CTE pathway teacher, assist with clerical paperwork including field trips, CTSO’s, grant proposals, and program reviews;

  3. Participate alongside CTE pathway teachers for field trips, work-based learning, advisory committees, and recruiting events as needed;

  4. Effectively communicate pathway needs and concerns to the CTE teacher as it pertains to students, equipment, partnerships, and other aspects of the CTE program;

  5. Assist CTE teacher(s) with regular pathway maintenance and duties as they arise;

  6. Assist students with CTE projects as needed including how to handle equipment and perform basic tasks;

  7. Conduct oneself in a professional manner with students, industry and business partners, teachers, and other district staff;

  8. Perform other related work as may be required.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  1. Basic methods and techniques used in tutoring and ways to work effectively with students;

  2. General needs and behavior patterns of students at the level to which assigned; 

  3. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; 

  4. Basic arithmetic.

 

Ability to:

  1. Project a mature, constructive, and stable attitude in a learning environment; 

  2. Be an excellent role model of a motivated, organized, successful college student who believes CTE students will succeed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency. Be enrolled in college or university full time (12 semester units); completion of the CTE pathway applying for is desired.

 

Experience: Be able to work in a supportive manner and in sync with CTE teachers and CTE students in the CTE classroom and environment.


REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Possession of and maintain a valid California Driver's License during the course of employment;

  2. Have an acceptable driving record;  

  3. Must be insurable at standard rates by the District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential functions.

 

Physical Demands:  Heavy work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to carry on normal speech and hearing activities; physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power-driven tools and equipment commonly used in the electronics field; ability to bend, stoop, grasp, and reach.

 

Working Conditions: Work outdoors and indoors including CTE shop or laboratory settings. Exposure to: seasonal outdoor temperatures of 32°-120°, dust, wind and sun, traffic, and fuel odors; driving to various district sites.
