Position Information:
Position Title: Skilled Maintenance Worker III - Low Voltage Systems Technician
Location: Maintenance & Operations Department
Work Year: 12 months
Hours/Days: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
Daily Schedule: Monday - Friday (6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)

SKILLED MAINTENANCE WORKER III -
LOW VOLTAGE SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of Maintenance Supervisor, to perform specialized technical work in the installation, programming, repair, and maintenance of a variety of electronic systems and equipment including but not limited to alarm, CCTV and CATV, communications, intercom; to provide skilled maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of a variety of telephone equipment, intercom, master clocks/bells, fire alarm systems, Public Address (PA) systems, timing clock systems, projectors, and marquees; to lead and participate fully in a variety of skilled, journey level craft work in the maintenance, repair, construction and upkeep of school buildings, facilities, and miscellaneous equipment; perform skilled craft work in one or more of the building maintenance trades; have completed apprenticeship or equivalent training in one or more of the trades utilized in the maintenance of District facilities and have achieved journey level status; and to do other related work as may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
Install, service, repair, and maintain a variety of specialized telephone and electronic equipment including intercom, clock, bell, and fire alarm systems.

Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, program, and service electrical equipment; assist end users with set-up, operation and configuration changes as necessary.
-
Programs a variety of electronic equipment such as: alarms, bell systems, intercoms, telephones, radios, and other programmable equipment
-
Replace components in a variety of systems as needed; estimate time and materials for needed repairs, upgrades or equipment replacement.

Schedule routine preventive maintenance work and maintain accurate records and logs of such activity; requisition parts, components and supplies as required.

Install cable, conduit or fiber optic runs in labs, classroom and other District facilities.

Work from plans, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and work orders
-
Drive a vehicle to and from work sites, suppliers and contractors.
-
Perform related duties as assigned.

Prepare and maintain records;

Establish and utilize safety procedures.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, blueprints or work orders.

Diagnose problems with telephone systems, intercom, clock, bell systems, projectors, timing clocks and synchronizing clock systems.

Education, Training, and Experience
-
Graduation from high school and four (4) years of experience in the repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of telephone, intercom, alarm, clock and bell systems.

Three (3) or more years of current experience at the journey level in the electrical trade: OR
-
Two (2) years at or equivalent to the level of Skilled Maintenance Worker II, wherein the individual has qualified for journey level maintenance experience in the Electrical trades.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
-
Valid California Class C driver’s license;
-
Have an acceptable driving record; and qualify for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above
Physical Demands: Reach, bend (up to continuously); stand, walk, look down (frequently); sit, drive, stoop, squat, kneel, climb (to roof), reach overhead, push, pull, twist (occasionally); crawl, lay down (infrequently); lift/carry up to 50 pounds (occasionally), to 75 pounds with assistance (up to occasionally); grasp & manipulate tools/supplies (frequently); use seeing, hearing and speaking.
Working Conditions: Indoors: schools, shop. Outdoors: school grounds, driving. Exposure to: dust/wind; seasonal temperatures (to 110 degrees); electrically and mechanically operated equipment; risk of electrical shock; working near moving mechanical parts; paint, cleaning agent & roof patch odors; power tool noise; handle drain cleaner, muriatic acid, gasoline; jackhammer & sawzall vibration.
