POSITION INFORMATION:

Location: Technology Department

Work Hours/Days: 8 hours per day | Monday - Friday

Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Work Year: 12 Month

Salary: $5,744.90 - 6,981.17 per month  (Classified Salary Schedule, Range 39)

Job Description

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Chief Technology Officer; provide technology-related support for all sites and programs; perform skilled work with the installation, repair, and maintenance of a variety of computer equipment, software, and peripherals; troubleshoot and perform timely repair of computer systems; and assist users in resolving technical problems.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Install and configure new and re-assigned computer hardware, software, printers, and peripherals;

  2. Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on computers and peripheral equipment;

  3. Test, evaluate, and troubleshoot new and existing computer equipment;

  4. Order, store, and manage replacement parts; maintain tools and inventory;

  5. Use a variety of electronic test instruments to diagnose and resolve equipment issues;

  6. Test and evaluate equipment and supplies used in servicing and repairing computers and peripheral devices;

  7. Construct or adopt testing tools; install and maintain interfaces and wiring between computers and accessories;

  8. Assist staff in evaluation and developing specifications of computer hardware and software;

  9. Serve as a resource to administrators, teachers, and staff;

  10. Train staff in computer repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures;

  11. Collaborate on technology projects, deployments, and district-wide Information Technology initiatives;

  12. Provide helpdesk support via telephone, email, and helpdesk tickets;

  13. Manage inventory and asset tracking for computers, printers, peripherals, and related equipment; maintain records of repairs and replacements;

  14. Support user account and system management;

  15. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  1. Various types of electronic test equipment, materials, and tools used in computer repair work;

  2. Basic electrical and electronic theory;

  3. Personal computer operating systems from Windows OS; MacOS, IOS, and Chrome OS;

  4. Common business and utility software;

  5. Enterprise backup and imaging software;

  6. Networking Data Cabling Theory;

  7. Customer service skills;

  8. General public relations.



Ability to:

  1. Efficiently maintain and repair computer equipment and systems;

  2. Test new and existing computer equipment;

  3. Learn and utilize new and current technologies;

  4. Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing;

  5. Follow work and safety procedures;

  6. Work from site diagrams, plans, and specifications;

  7. Organize and follow work schedules;

  8. Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

  9. Perform duties quickly and accurately;

  10. Work effectively despite frequent interruptions;

  11. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Education: 

High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency, and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.

 

Experience: 

Two (2) or more years of general computer maintenance, installation, and repair work experience required. Technical certifications are preferred but not required. An Associate degree or Certificate of Completion from an approved trade school in computer repair or closely related fields may substitute for one year of the required experience.

 

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License and maintain possession of such license during employment; 

  2. Have an acceptable driving record;

  3. Must be insurable at standard rates by the District’s insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during employment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential job duties and responsibilities listed above.

 

Physical Demands:  Heavy work involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to carry on normal speech and hearing activities; physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power-driven tools and equipment commonly used in the electronics field; ability to bend, stoop, grasp, and reach.

 

Working Conditions:  School, office, and grounds. Exposure to: inside/outside temperature swings, use of office equipment & supplies, and proximity to alarms.
