Position Information
Position Title: Technical Theatre Assistant
Location: Tahquitz High School
Work Year: School Session (195 Paid days)
Hours/Days: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
Daily Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.(hours can change based on site needs)

TECHNICAL THEATRE ASSISTANT
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the site Principal or designee, and in collaboration with the site's Theatre and
Technical Theatre Teachers, provide technical theater expertise and assistance for the campus and
community use of the Performing Arts Center (PAC).
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Coordinate, plan, and implement stage production activities, ensuring work is completed in a timely and appropriate manner;
2. Operate sound and lighting equipment, including digital lighting systems, audio consoles, and specialized support items such as fog or haze effects;
3. Operate counterweight flying and rigging systems, including work in high, elevated situations;
4. Design house lighting plots as required for various productions;
5. Assist teachers with preparations for classes and performances, including the safe operation of tools and machinery utilized in Technical Theatre classrooms;6. Act as a production consultant for site, District, and community events; communicate with staff and outside user groups regarding equipment needs, personnel requirements, and hours of use;
7. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on theatrical and media equipment; maintain inventory levels of materials and supplies, and process requisitions according to established procedures;
8. May be required to operate a district and/or personal vehicle to obtain materials and transport equipment;
9. Perform other related work as may be required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
1. Principles and practices of audio, lighting, theatrical set design, and production;
2. Theatrical rigging, counterweight systems, and safety protocols for all equipment and materials;
3. Principles of supervision and training;
4. Theater house management, maintenance, and safety operations;
5. Computer operations and software relevant to theatrical production and inventory.
Ability to:
1. Use tools and equipment in performing installation, maintenance, and repair activities;
2. Accurately estimate material costs and work from diagrams, blueprints, or shop drawings;
3. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and the community;
4. Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
5. Maintain simple records and prepare concise reports.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency, and possession of
the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Experience:
Six (6) months of experience as an unskilled and/or semiskilled worker in a theatrical or production
environment.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
1. Possession of and maintain a valid California Driver's License during the course of employment;
2. Have an acceptable driving record;
3. Must be insurable at standard rates by District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment.
4. Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSThe physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential functions.
Physical Demands: Climbing ladders/scaffolds, balancing and working at heights; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items from 10 to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, sitting, twisting, squatting; standing for extended periods, looking up/down; use seeing, hearing, and
speaking; and significant finger dexterity.
Working Conditions: School theater and grounds. Exposure to: Inside/outside temperature swings, use of office equipment & supplies, limited visibility/low light, small spaces, and elevated work areas. Work hours may be adjusted to meet site needs. Evening or variable hours. Responsibilities frequently require work outside of normal hours, including evenings and weekends, to support scheduled performances and district events.
