Position Dates: Anticipated to start August of 2026
This is a short-term/at-will internship position for approximately 16 weeks (please note: hours are subject to change due to department needs). Once the internship is completed, recommended Interns may have the opportunity to continue employment as a Classified Substitute Assistant Storekeeper/Delivery Driver position with the same rate of pay.

SUBSTITUTE ASSISTANT STOREKEEPER/DELIVERY DRIVER
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, to receive, store, check, issue, and distribute equipment and supplies; to process requisitions, organize and load delivery trucks, and deliver warehouse items, books, and media materials; to assist in general storekeeping activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive materials, equipment, textbooks, and supplies delivered to the central warehouse;

Check and inspect items for conformity to kind and amount as shown on purchase orders;
-
Mark equipment and materials for identification;
-
Sort and store stock in the warehouse using forklifts and pallet jacks;
-
Fill requisitions for supplies, books, and other instructional materials and equipment;
-
Collect supplies for delivery and load the delivery truck;
-
Deliver material to schools, offices, and other locations, usually following a regular schedule;
-
Make emergency or special pick-ups and deliveries as required;
-
May pick up supplies, materials, or equipment and provide messenger service outside the District;
-
Keep warehouse areas and shelves orderly and clean;
-
Assist with physical inventories;
-
May pick up and deliver intra-district mail to schools and offices;
-
Drive vehicles such as vans, pick-up trucks, or larger trucks;
-
May contact vendors to check on the status of orders or damaged stock;
-
Perform other related work as may be required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

Methods used in shipping, receiving, and processing supplies and equipment;

Physical aspects of storage of materials, including orderliness;

Delivery vehicle operation and routine maintenance;
-
Appropriate techniques for lifting and/or carrying supplies;
-
Basic arithmetic and clerical skills;
-
Safe work practices.
Ability to:
-
Perform general clerical work related to storekeeping;
-
Learn warehousing procedures relating to the receipt, storage, and issuance of goods, equipment, and supplies used in a school district;
-
Operate or learn to operate a forklift, pallet jacks, and similar hydraulic lift equipment;
-
Operate District delivery vehicles, observing legal and safe driving practices;
-
Perform heavy manual labor and maintain safe work practices;
-
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
-
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency, and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Experience: Any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

Possession of and maintain a valid California Driver's License during the course of employment;

Have an acceptable driving record;
-
Must be insurable at standard rates by the District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential functions.
Physical Demands: Heavy work involving frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 100 pounds; and, using a type of moving device pushing and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 2000 pounds; ability to carry on normal speech and hearing activities; physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate warehouse equipment, operate a motor vehicle, and to perform strenuous manual labor; ability to bend, stoop, grasp and reach.
Working Conditions: May stock and store supplies that require lifting objects overhead on a regular basis. Work involves considerable carrying of materials and requires an understanding of proper methods for lifting and carrying, loading and unloading supplies and equipment.
