NUTRITION SERVICES DISHWASHER
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Nutrition Services or designee, the Nutrition Services Dishwasher performs the daily functions of the cart wash area. This entry-level position is responsible for organizing, washing, drying, and restacking food service equipment; cleaning and sanitizing carts and large items; and maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding work area. The incumbent ensures proper sanitation practices in accordance with the Nutrition Services Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plan and the California Retail Food Code.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate and maintain the roll-in-style cart and rack washer and the surrounding work area to ensure cleanliness, safety, and efficiency;

Prepare, wash, sanitize, and dry reusable trays, carts, racks, and large kitchen equipment using a commercial roll-in-style cart and rack washer;

Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and sanitation practices in compliance with HACCP guidelines and health regulations;
-
Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of workstations, floors, walls, drains, and kitchen equipment;
-
Ensure proper disposal and cleanliness of waste and drainage areas;
-
Monitor and document washer operation, including water temperature and chemical levels; promptly report any malfunctions, irregularities, or safety concerns to a supervisor;

Assist in tracking and maintaining accurate counts of cleaned and returned trays, carts, and racks;
-
Support additional warehouse, utility, or kitchen sanitation duties as assigned;

Perform other related work as may be required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

Basic cleaning and sanitizing methods are used in food service operations.

Operation and simple maintenance of commercial dishwashing and roll-in style cart and rack washer;

Proper procedures for handling food service equipment and reusable items;

Principles of safe food handling, HACCP, and California Retail Food Code;

Workplace safety practices, including safe lifting and handling of heavy items.
Ability to:

Follow oral and written instructions accurately;

Safely and efficiently operate a variety of commercial washing equipment;

Lift and maneuver heavy trays, carts, and equipment up to 55 pounds;

Work independently with minimal supervision;

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment;

Access and use District-adopted web-based systems, if applicable;

Maintain food handlers' operating permit;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Certificate of Proficiency, and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Experience:
Prior experience working in food service, janitorial services, or industrial dishwashing is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

A current County of Riverside Food Handlers Certificate must be obtained before the first day of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements listed below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential functions.
Physical Demands: Heavy work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 55 pounds. Ability to carry on normal speech and hearing activities; physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate washing equipment and perform manual labor; ability to bend, stoop, grasp, and reach. May work indoors in areas subject to heat, humidity, steam, and cleaning chemicals.
Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors, and may travel to alternate sites. This role involves standing for extended periods, performing repetitive motions, and frequently handling cleaning agents and working in wet conditions. This position involves regular exposure to noise from commercial kitchen equipment, dishwashing machinery, and cart-washing systems. Must be aware of proper lifting techniques and safe use of cleaning equipment.
