Job Description

Western Center Academy Assistant Principal

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Executive Director of the Western Center Academy, assists in the administration of a STEM focused academic program, administers delegated functions which may include development of a Master Class Schedule, evaluation and supervision of the school curriculum and instruction program, coordination and supervision of student activities, assisting in developing the school budget; and other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
• Assists the Executive Director in administering and coordinating the total school plan within the policies established by the Board of Education;
• Maintain federal, state, and charter laws and regulations;
• Coordinates and oversees the lab science program and provide technology/digital oversight to campus;
• Assists in evaluating the educational program, services, and personnel as directed;
• Assists the Executive Director in curriculum development and instructional improvement;
• Assists in the selection, supervision, and performance evaluation of certificated and classified employees;
• Train and support new and veteran staff;
• Counsels with students, teachers, and parents concerning problems of student adjustment to insure student success in school regarding education, social and personal problems;
• Coordinates all guidance services in the school;
• Supervises the school plant and approves work orders;
• Schedules teachers extra duty assignments;
• Provide teachers instructional support and feedback;
• Present staff development workshops and training;
• Develop and Implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Models;
• Work with and use data to inform best practices;
• Supervises the maintenance of complete school attendance and punctuality;
• Directs and assists teachers in maintaining correct and adequate records of attendance and in reporting school attendance;
• Responsible for student control and all disciplinary actions;
• Supervises the campus before, during, and after the school day;
• Coordinates and supervises campus supervision personnel;
• Build and maintain a positive school culture focused on results;
• Assist in interpreting district and school programs to parents and interested community members;
• Participates in community and professional organizations;
• May coordinate the planning, development, and implementation of the Master Class Schedule;
• Organize and maintain record keeping system for student accountability, identification of student special needs, i.e., English Language Learners, Educationally Disadvantaged Youth, etc., control inventory and other necessary program documentation;
• Work with parent groups and attend parent group meetings.

EDUCATION:
Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, preferably in secondary curriculum or administration or a closely related field.


EXPERIENCE:
• 5 years of successful high school teaching experience.
• Previous administrative experience is desired.
• Previous work in STEM related fields is desired.


CREDENTIAL AND LICENSES:
• Valid General Administration, Standard Administration, or Administrative Services credential.
• Valid California teaching.
• Valid California Driver’s license;
• Maintain possession of such license during the course of employment.

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above.


Physical Demands: Sit, look downward, reach, (up to frequently); stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, foot controls (occasionally); climb stairs, twist (infrequently); repetitive hand activities within close reach, such as files, keyboard & handwriting (frequently); lift/ carry up to 25 pounds (occasionally), may lift/ carry child up to 75 pounds (infrequently); extensive reading; use vision, hearing & speaking (including in-person, phone & public address.)


Working Conditions: Indoor office, outdoor school yard & grounds, driving to different sites. Exposure to: seasonal temperature variations, dust and wind, traffic, food preparation smells, use of office equipment and desk supplies.
