Requirements

Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED. 48 college credit hours or Paraprofessional Certificate to meet ESSA requirements and a valid Texas Educational Aide III certificate.

(Note: The COCISD Human Resources Dept. can work with you to obtain the Paraprofessional and Educational Aide certificates)

Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of curriculum and instruction assigned grades or subject. Knowledge of intervention instructional strategies and best practices. Ability to instruct students and manage behavior. Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and educators. Ability to analyze data to provide intervention support to at-risk students Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience: 3 years of experience working with children as an Educational Aide I or II or have 30 semester hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas.

Job Description

Primary Purpose: Provide direct academic support services to identified students. Work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide leadership, support, classroom modeling, coaching, and staff development to teachers in related subject-area. Work with students individually and in small groups, bringing them up to grade level math standards.

Instructional Strategies

1. Assess and identify children at risk.

2. Provide instruction to students who are eligible for services in a small group, classroom, or individual setting. Co-plan or co-teach lessons with grade level teachers.

3. Provide interventions for at risk students, preparing and delivering lessons that reflect the specific academic intervention needs for each individual student.

4. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflects understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Differentiate instruction individually and within a small group.

5. Evaluate and measure the effectiveness of specific RtI strategies and interventions.

6. Document ongoing progress, assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing of approx. 1416 students.

7. Communicate individual student progress regularly with appropriate school personnel and parents

8. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

9 . Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.

10. Create environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

11. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

13. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Professional Growth and Development

14. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

15. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

16. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment.

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
