About This Role:
The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) will assist in providing instruction specific to the area of speech and language communication to students identified as having special needs, monitoring the use of augmentative communication devices and systems. Under the guidance of a Speech and Language Pathologist, the SLPA will focus on developing students’ oral communication skills to support their ability to access their educational program.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing speech and language development services to students with speech-language impairments in group and individual settings in alignment with the student’s IEP communication goals
  • Assisting with conducting speech and language screenings using appropriate prescribed techniques and devices;
  • Following and implementing treatment plans;
  • Documenting student progress towards meeting established goals and objectives;
  • Supporting with conducting formal assessments as needed;
  • Ability to read and understand formal assessment results;
  • Performing a variety of clerical support duties such as maintaining records, files and preparing reports related to assigned students;
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and operating augmentative communication devices and equipment;
  • Supporting preparation for IEP meetings of students on assigned caseload including assisting with writing present levels of performance and new goals for IEPs;
  • Collaborating with general education teacher, special education teacher (case manager) and SLP to ensure that students meet the goals outlined in their IEPs;
  • Providing individualized classroom strategies to facilitate specific communication skills;
  • As aligned to our educational model, helping to collect, manage, and analyze academic data to track school performance and student achievement.
  • Participating as an active member of school-based Special Education team;
  • Supporting special projects as they relate to Special Education;
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant license granted by the California Speech-Language and Hearing Audiology Board
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with students in a school setting;
  • Demonstrated results working with students;
  • Knowledge of IEP present levels and goal-writing;
  • Knowledge of formal assessments;

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituents
