About This Role: 

Silver Lake Middle School ("CWC SLMS") is seeking a dynamic and experienced Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher who is passionate about creating joyful, rigorous learning environments. The ideal candidate is committed to social-emotional development, culturally responsive teaching, and fostering a love for reading and writing through constructivist, project-based approaches.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and refine curriculum aligned with Common Core Middle School ELA Standards and multiple intelligences theory.

  • Deliver engaging lessons in reading, writing, speaking, and listening to support student growth.

  • Use multiple forms of assessment to monitor progress, inform instruction, and ensure students meet or exceed grade-level expectations.

  • Use data to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to individual learners.

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom culture grounded in social-emotional learning.

  • Collaborate regularly with colleagues, school leaders, and Teaching Associates.

  • Maintain proactive and ongoing communication with students’ families.

  • Participate in professional development, school-wide activities, and community engagement opportunities.

  • Model professionalism and uphold all deadlines and responsibilities with integrity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in English (required)

  • CLAD or BCLAD certification (preferred)

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in diverse school settings

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to support both small and large groups

  • Experience with social-emotional learning, community building, and student empowerment

  • Spanish or Korean fluency is a plus
