VISTA Assignment Objectives and Member Activities

Goal of the Project: The Up2Us Sports VISTA project builds the capacity of host-site organizations working to end the cycle of poverty through intentional youth sports and education programming. The Up2Us Sports VISTA placed at Citizens of the World - West Valley will increase volunteer engagement, drive fundraising initiatives, and create an all encompassing marketing strategy. This will result in an increase of scale and reach for our small organization.

Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: August 2022-June 2023) Increase Volunteerism by 15% through targeted outreach and intentional clearance systems

Member Activity: Our VISTA will streamline the volunteer clearance system to ensure a fast turnaround from the time one expresses interest in volunteering to the time they start (goal: under two weeks).

Member Activity: Our VISTA will identify any hurdles that may be standing in the way of new volunteers starting and come up with a plan to include all (ie. single parents, etc)

Member Activity: Our VISTA will create a complex calendar of volunteer events and identify gaps.

Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: August 2022-June 2023)

Implement precise marketing plan for the school year that will result in an increase of enrollment by 10%

Member Activity: Our VISTA will create a calendar of marketing for the 22/23 school year using google sheets and google calendar, based on our community calendar.

Member Activity: Our VISTA will implement innovative ideas using social media. This will

 

 

involve creating reels, stories, posts that attract new audience members.

Member Activity: Our VISTA will increase clicks to our enrollment dashboard by adding marketing material to social media and securing more partnerships with local community based organizations. This will be measured through the instagram and facebook dashboard. 

Member Activity: Our VISTA will partner with our Community Coordinator to come up with fresh ideas for in person engagement with new community members.

 

 

Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: August 2022-June 2023) Increase fundraising donations by 25% by analyzing trends and creating new campaigns.

Member Activity: Our VISTA will deeply examine fundraising trends from the past two years of operation to identify gaps and areas of growth.

Member Activity: Our VISTA will use data to lead a targeted Annual Family Give campaign. This will result in a repeat donation rate of 90%.

Member Activity: Our VISTA will design merchandise and determine a cadence for sales and distribution, resulting in a profit of $3k.

Responsibilities

Service members receive:
  • A living allowance
  • An end of service benefit (Education Award or Cash Stipend)
  • Access to healthcare benefits
  • Can put student loans in forbearance or deferment when serving (no loan payments)
Living Allowance = bi-weekly payment
  • For residents of Los Angeles, this is $66.08 per day for a total of $24,119.20 for the year.
  • The living allowance is a modest sum based on the poverty line of the county the program is located in.
  • This is not a “salary” nor is it usually equal to the minimum wage of the city
End of Service Benefit - choice of ONE
  • Education Award - $6,495. Can be used for education at any Title IX school, most student loans, and for up to 7 years
  • Cash Stipend - $1,800. Cash in hand at the end of the service term
Health Care Benefit - Choice of ONE
  • Healthcare Benefit - If they don’t have insurance, provides minor coverage. Covers accidents/injuries
  • Healthcare Allowance - Covers out of pocket expenses up to a certain amount. $1,000 for dental and $200 for vision and $8,550 for general out of pocket expenses. Limitations exist.
Child Care Benefit
  • Supports members with child care costs for children under 13
SNAP/WIC
  • Eligible to apply for public assistance programs
VISTAs must be:

Job Description

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy 

Vaccination is a vital tool to reduce the presence and severity of COVID-19 cases in the workplace and communities. Citizens of the World Los Angeles has adopted this policy on mandatory vaccination to safeguard the health of our employees from the hazard of COVID-19. All employees covered by this policy are required to be fully vaccinated as a term and condition of employment at Citizens of the World Los Angeles. CWC employees/ prospective employees may apply for medical or religious exemptions from this requirement. Exemptions are granted in very rare circumstances as CWC LA schools are co-located with traditional LAUSD schools, and on LAUSD sites, no employee can access campus without being vaccinated. We are required to follow LAUSD policy for those sites. Employees will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the requisite number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. An employee will be considered partially vaccinated if they have received only one dose of a two-dose vaccine.  Potential candidates for employment will be notified by CWC HR Dept. during onboarding on how to submit proper verification of COVID-19 vaccination prior to the start of employment.
