Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) Certificate, or California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) Certificate is required

  • Valid Food Protection Manager Certificate or the ability to obtain one within 60 calendar days of hire

  • Supplemental training with customer service and cash handling is desirable

  • 2-4 years’ experience working in urban schools

  • Spanish and English fluency preferred

  • Sufficient physical ability, strength, mobility and stamina to lift 35 pounds and to push or pull up to 75 pounds on a rolling rack or cart

  • Manage and manipulate data in Excel and other databases

  • Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment required

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to produce error-free work

Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade.

The Opportunity

 

Under the supervision of the School Operations Manager, the Food Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of routine food service activities relating to the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program such as preparation and serving of food items to students in an assigned school site kitchen facility according to established procedures.

 

Responsibilities

 

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to pertinent federal, state, local, organization and departmental procedures, practices, rules and regulations

  • Interact with large numbers of students and other customers in a professional and courteous manner for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding meals

  • Collaborate with meal vendor staff to ensure accurate delivery of food and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate supply of food service items for students, 

  • Study consumption trend data in order to minimize food waste 

  • Perform duties related to the point of sale (POS) system as assigned, receive money, cards or numbers from students and staff for paid, pre-paid, free and reduced meals; accurately make change; perform transactions of sales, accept meal payments and daily balance snack inventory sheet, complete daily cash counting sheet

  • Utilize basic computer skills including data entry for the purpose of communication throughout the school

  • Assist with performing inventories; give information pertaining to ordering, inspect and assist in the storage of food and supplies for the purpose of ensuring correct specification, quantity and quality. 

  • Coordinate and process all free and reduced-price meal applications and/or alternative income forms and maintain accurate records for audit, including verification of income on meal applications

  • Support school with translation services during peak hours or as requested

  • Support school office staff as back up clerical support during peak hours as requested

  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development supporting school food service programs

  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students, the program, the school site and the organization
