Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (AOTE) certified school
- Valid certification as an Occupational Therapist by the American Occupational Therapy Association or the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
- At least three (3) years of occupational therapy experience in a public-school setting
- At least one (1) year experience in occupational therapy with children with severe disabilities, including pediatrics, sensory integration and motor evaluation and training
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Knowledge of a range of PK-12 instructional frameworks and curriculum, as well as a range of Special Education program models
- Experience or commitment working on a team as well as across teams
- Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment required
- Ability to understand and navigate the political, social, economic, legal and cultural context facing urban charter schools and the students they serve

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade.

The Opportunity
The Occupational Therapist will work within a cross-functional team led by the Director of Special Education to support CNCA Schools. The Occupational Therapist will provide related occupational therapy services to students, grades K-12, with various disabilities according to the students’ IEP. The Occupational Therapist participates as a member of the educational team; provides assessment, consultation, and direct occupational therapy to students within educational, developmental, and functional parameters; and develops and implements individual occupational therapy intervention plans. Travel between school sites required; mileage reimbursed.
Strategy and Vision Setting Responsibilities
- Monitors therapy programs and educational staff trained to incorporate occupational therapy treatment strategies into the educational program, as well as the educational and medical applications of adaptive equipment
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the established program and makes modifications within the framework of the IEP process as necessary, conducts in-services as requested
- Maintain knowledge and provide training(s) to network related to neuromuscular function and dysfunction, kinesiology, and skeletal anatomy, as well as basic pathology involved in orthopedic disabilities
Administrative Management& Compliance Responsibilities
- Evaluates, plans and performs educationally necessary occupational therapy services with children
- Collaborates with educators, family members and colleagues in the planning and implementation of service delivery
- Clearly communicates assessment reports, student’s needs, and proposed therapeutic strategies/plan
- Writes individual student present levels of performance, goals, objectives addressing functional outcomes, as a part of the IEP plan; maintains progress records and service logs
- participates in IEP meetings; provides student with individual and/or small group therapy sessions utilizing a direct, consultative or monitoring approach, as appropriate
- Maintains session notes and records regarding areas of service
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff
