Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. We integrate academic rigor, community, family, and wellness to empower students to thrive in a culturally connected and changing world. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade.

The Opportunity
Under the supervision of School Leadership and Expanded Learning Coordinator, the Expanded Learning Academic Enrichment Teacher has the opportunity to use innovative academic and enrichment curricula to establish a culture of educational excellence through a holistic approach to academic enrichment. Instructor must be a visionary, eager to be in the forefront of educational and enrichment practices, and must embrace the challenge of demonstrating that public education in a low-income, primarily immigrant, multilingual area can succeed.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Prepare and implement lesson plans that lead to active student engagement in lessons after school in area of responsibility, which may include but is not limited to one or more of the following:
- Reading
- Math
- English Language Development
- Gardening
- Library Programming
- Outdoor Education
- STEM
- Dance
- Art
- Ethnic Studies
- Create a safe and welcoming program culture for all students
- Adapt programming for the purpose of providing students with program materials that address individualized needs
- Facilitate targeted small group instruction providing students with materials that meet their individualized needs when appropriate
- Assess students and collect data to ensure program efficacy and student needs are met
- Participate regularly in professional development opportunities
- Communicate frequently with students, students’ families, colleagues and other stakeholders
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance
- Other duties as assigned
