Qualifications

Associate’s degree or a minimum of 48 semester units of college coursework (and/or have passed the CBEST)

Bachelor’s degree preferred

The Opportunity
Under the supervision of School Leadership and a classroom teacher, the Teacher Assistant – Special Education supports CNCA students by supporting instruction and performing supplemental activities which encourage students to meet their educational goals. The TA-SPED follows educational and specific behavioral plans; modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.

Responsibilities

Serve as in-class support for students

In collaboration with the classroom teacher, assist in executing lesson plans for students
-
Assist the classroom teacher with co-planning and co-teaching for students
-
Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the classroom teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives
-
Communicate with teachers and other district personnel for the purpose of assisting and evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives
-
Provide, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. self-esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of student deficiencies and ensuring student’s success
-
Document student daily activities (e.g. behavior, completed assignments, on/off tasks, etc.) for the purpose of completing daily logs and student hourly activities
-
Implement under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts
-
Model conversation, manners, cleanup activities, listening and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner

Monitor student daily schedule and behavior plan (e.g. class schedule, toileting, medication, appetite, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment

Assist assigned staff member(s) in all aspects of daily programming including, but not necessarily limited to: social, academic, behavioral and self-help growth and development
-
Assist in the direct supervision of children in the assigned program as directed by the teacher or administrator (e.g. bus loading, classroom assignments, lunch, recess, etc.)

Integrate educational technology into the curricula and education program to strengthen the teaching/learning process for students
-
Support classroom teacher in developing long and short-term academic goals that scaffolds learning from students’ current performance levels to grade level
-
Support in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students
-
Work closely with students and their families to promote personal growth and success
-
Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with grade level team, administrators, and service providers as necessary
-
Supervise students during recess and lunch time
-
