Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has eight campuses that serve over 3,500 students from pre-K through 12th grade.

The Opportunity
Under general supervision the Custodian will maintain an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule and perform other related work as required or assigned.
Responsibilities
- Daily wipe and disinfect high contact surfaces – entry gates, main doors, office doors, reception desks and lunch areas
- Daily clean and disinfect restrooms as per disinfecting methods with Versa II cleaning machine
- Daily spray outdoor play apparatus, student lunch tables and benches with portable back-pack sprayer. Wipe and clean manually, if necessary
- Bi-weekly wipe and disinfect touch-surface office equipment (i.e. copier, fax machines, etc) and file areas.
- Bi-weekly spray disinfectant in exterior areas, stair hand rails, elevator doors, and other touch surfaces
- Weekly spray rooms with disinfectant with Clorox T-360 electrostatic disinfectant sprayer
- Weekly pressure wash of high use exterior areas, sidewalks, walkways, student lunch areas, etc.
- Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and seal floors
- Vacuum rugs and carpet
- Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrels
- Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean whiteboards
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparing multipurpose rooms or classrooms for events or meetings
- Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes
- Clean window coverings, such as drapes and blinds
- Pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilities
- Sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to the school buildings
- Perform emergency cleanup service resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling, and illness
- May raise and lower flags, lock and unlock gates and doors
- May set or manage security and video systems
- Assist in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment
- Arrange cones for student pick up & drop off; collect and put them away
- Operate and adjust heating and ventilating equipment
- Perform minor maintenance tasks in keeping assigned areas safe and operational
- Care for landscaping including pruning, planting, and watering
- Actively seek to determine the needs of students and staff with respect to the facility and to meet, and whenever possible, exceed their needs
- Participate in professional development and regularly scheduled meetings with school team or cross-site team of custodians as requested
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Education sufficient to attain the ability to read and write at the level necessary for successful performance of the above duties
- High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) Certificate, or California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) Certificate preferred
- Six months of experience involved with the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities
- Bilingual English and Spanish
- Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicles Operator’s License
- Possession of the minimum required insurance coverage as mandated by the state of California for operation of a vehicle
- Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques
- Knowledge of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment
- Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures
- Ability to perform moderately medium to heavy manual activities
- Ability to efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
